Footwear Photography

Just like any other commercial product, excellent photography of shoes enhances conversion rates whether in an online shop or social media ad. While most of the basic product photography insight remain the same, there’s a couple special techniques to employ when shooting shoes.

The essence of shoe photography is to communicate the footwear’s features to the viewer. It could be anything from the shape to the sole, heel, texture, style and so on. By looking at the image, customers should be able to visualize themselves rocking a pair on their feet.

Bad photography will not bring out this concept clearly as images of the shoes look uninviting and charmless. To achieve shoe frames that depict the true quality and style of the brand,  merchants invest in professional shoe photography. Take a look at these amazing shoe shots from our Amazon clients **** done by us.

How do we maintain such good quality, high resolution, captivating footwear shots that keep our clients coming for more? Well, we’ve mastered the art from years of experience doing shoe photography. Here are a few lessons that come out from our many successful shoe photo shoots.

Keep things simple and elegant. A simple but popular arrangement is better and less confusing than a complicated display. Some common arrangements that do well include, one shoe standing upright on a surface; a flat laid pair in opposite directions, one Flatlay and one upright shoe from a pair, one upright shoe and the second resting at an angle. Floating arrangements are also trending.

Support the shoes frame to bring out its natural shape by stuffing in paper, fabric or tissue. For strappy footwear that cannot be stuffed, support the floppy straps using stringsthat will be erased during post production editing.

A clean, white, non-distracting background is a necessity when shooting images for e-commerce selling platforms. However, some playful creativity can be incorporated for lifestyle shots to give them a flair and appeal. Gym sports shoes for examples can utilize props such as dumbbells and a water bottle against a contrasting background.

Models make shoes more appealing as they present them in context which can easily translate into the customer’s mind. Take advantage of their mobility to capture the images in captivating poses. Be sure to focus on just the legs. If any part of their clothing is visible, it should complement the shoe color and style.

Choose your lighting carefully. It should not be too hard to cast some deep shadows. Use soft light for soft shadows. Also, ensure the light spectrum does not distort the original color of the footwear.

Present viewers with a variety of angles. Front, back, aerial, both sides and even close up photos of important details for example buckles, zippers, toe tips, heel, under sole patterns, inner sole, labels, laces, eyelets, texture and other decorative features.

If you’d like to keep up with trends and add a little dramatic touch to your photographs, invest in a turn table for a 360° view of the shoes. Ensure the shots are equidistant starting from the front all the way back to the same position. This gives a uniform all rounded perspective.

Sounds like too much work? Well, to skip this entire learning curve and not compromise your brand image, contact the experts. We will take care of your shoe photography needs in a professional and affordable way.
